Are you thinking about hosting a murder mystery or other theme party? Then you will likely need a costume! To pull off that fancy party with some class, think in advance about how to dress for your part. Your costume will need to match your character and that takes a little planning! Consider the following…
What is your role? If you are participating in a murder mystery party, a character or role will be assigned to you. Specific guidelines for dressing your part should be provided for you; if not, scour the internet to hunt down visual images that can help you plan. If you are participating in a theme party, again, the internet will help provide you with a lot of visual cues for how to dress appropriately. If you are not sure how dramatic you should dress, don’t hesitate to ask the host; they will probably love that you care enough about his or her party to ask for tips!
How much time do you have to prepare? How elaborate can you afford to be? One day to plan is obviously very different from one month, so check your calendar and be sure you give yourself plenty of time to purchase pieces of your costume, including allowing any time for shipping. Sewing or any other detailing work will also require extra time; be realistic about your time frame before buying anything.
What is your budget? If budget is an issue, set yourself some cost limitations. Most people require a budget to some degree, and some even enjoy the challenge of planning an elaborate costume on a tiny budget even when they can afford more! Once you know an amount, you can begin to determine how elaborate or detailed your costume can be for you!
